A debenture was obtained from the Imperial Bank of Canada at Winnipeg, 18 Nov. 1893 for $450. The first school site was on
NW 26-17-28, N. W. T., on land owned by
James Campbell. The land is now owned by the
Clemenshaw family. There are no records to
tell in what year the school was built and
when it first opened. In 1913 the highest number of
pupls in one month was 34. In 1914 the
highest number of pupils in one month was 43
with 10 classesFor school purposes 3
sections of land, namely 3-17-27, and 6 and
7-18-27 were taken out of the Moose Jaw R.
M. #161 and added to this S. D.
In 1921 a top story was
added to the school. This was used as a high school for some time. The high school closed in Dec., 1939. In 1946 the Moose Jaw Larger School Unit formed and Summerside was incorporated into the unit. In the fall of 1946 a teacherage was moved in and the first residents were Mr. And Mrs. C. McBride. The school was demolished
in 1962, being condemned by the insurance
company, because the foundation wasn't
strong enough to support the second story.
A cottage type school was moved in before the old one was taken down. This school was finally closed June 30, 1964. It was moved to Grayburn and is now used as a community hall. The school children are now bussed to Moose Jaw.
