Summerside Church

In the early days of opening Western Canada, some of the established churches in the East helped or sponsored the missions. The Summerside Church got its name from Summerside, P.E.I. The first meeting of the Summerside Presbyterian Mission Managers was held at the James Campbell home in August 1891, with Mr. Dunn, a missionary, presiding. At that time services were held in various homes, especially at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Getty, Sr. In 1896 services were held in the Orange Hall.

A church building committee composed of A.H. Powell, A. Dalrymple, I. Griffith, S. Getty, J. Getty, A. McKeown, Jas. Campbell, A. Getty, and T. Getty was appointed. Jt was decided to build a frame church on property donated by Archie Dalrymple. The church was built in 1898 and was opened on March 5, 1899. It was located on the SW 2-18-28.

In 1906 a full basement was put under the church. In 1907 the Minister was stationed at Caron, resulting in the closing of the Summerside manse.

The church was closed in 1960 or 1961. The church was sold and the property reverted to farm land which is now owned by Grant Dalrymple.
