Caron Update 2015

In May of 2015 Bill Pinfold, a British tourist with family ties to Caron, visited Caron and sent me these images and comments.

"I called by at Caron just to have a look around and spotted a group of people erecting a new children's play-area beside the community hall on the corner of Main Street /Railway Ave and Ernfold Street. I wondered over to say hello and a chap called Ed Livingstone explained that several families have moved to the village so three of them have clubbed together to put in some slides etc. It sounds like the village population is really growing again.  Ed is himself developing a couple of plots of land, including the exact spot on Morse Street where my great uncle's house stood.

I also visited Sandra at the new RM office in Moose Jaw and had a lovely chat to catch up with her.  She was explaining that the water table has risen drastically this spring due to excess water coming down from the north. The basement of the old RM office flooded to 3 feet deep, which she has never seen before in her 30 odd years in charge. The RM office has now been bought and is being converted to a private residence.

The Canadian Legion hall next to the old RM office has been bought and changed a flea market."

Caron Update 2016

In 2016 Bill Pinfold, a British tourist with family ties to Caron, visited Caron and sent me these images and comments.
"The village is looking very green and pleasant at the moment. A couple of new houses have been built and a new house is being finished at the junction of Morse and Coteau. The new play park beside the village hall has had two concrete bases added and last weekend they were going to put a gazebo on one and a picnic bench on the other.  https://www.facebook.com/CaronForKids/

A chap called Rodney Schmidt who lives up the hill bought the old RM office and uses it to display his private collection of antiques and museum pieces. Apparently he can be approached for viewings so I will try to call him next time I am there."

Caron Update 2017

In June of 2017 Bill Pinfold, a British tourist with family ties to Caron, visited Caron and sent me these images and comments.

"Another year and somehow I managed to justify another visit to Caron last week. That's 5 in a row now and, having just found new cousins in Moose Jaw, I suspect I will also be back out there next year too.

A few things to update you on :

- we spent a few hours with Rodney Schmidt who moved to Caron a couple of years ago with his wife Darlene. They live in a new house on Coteau Ave and Rodney bought the old RM office  which was the Bank of Hamilton up to 1924. Rodney is a very personable chap who has collected loads of interesting stuff and has turned the RM office and a shed behind into a mini-museum. Loads of old telephones, storage jars, farm gear, household gadgets, bottles, pipes, etc and especially some great railway station artefacts including a message catcher and a ticket cabinet.

- the column with the old school bell on it had to be moved. The frame holding the bell had also started to collapse. So the bell is currently being stored and the idea is to incorporate it in a new village sign to be put at the level crossing. A new sign is needed because yet more people have moved in to the village.

-  the memorial cairn that the Legion had has been removed and will supposedly be placed in Mortlach instead.

- Railway Ave looks to have been renamed Milne VC Ave."
