Colin Baker

Colin Baker's connection to Rochdale is that he lived there for a time in his youth. He was born in 1943 in London during an air raid. He was educated at St. Bede's College in Manchester and then went on to study Law. His career as a lawyer came to an early end because at 23 he became a student at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Ironically, for an ex-lawyer, his acting career began in 1969 with a role in "Plaintiff in a Pretty Hat" at the Arts Theatre in Cambridge. In the years that followed he worked both on the stage and television. He had a 2 year engagement in the BBC series "The Brothers". Then he landed a part in Dr. Who during the reign of Peter Davidson. He appeared as Maxil in the episode entitled "Arc of Infinity”.

When Davidson left the series, Baker was offered the role as the 6th regeneration and of course the 2nd Baker in the part. Colin Baker played The Doctor in seasons 22 and 23, making a total of 26 episodes before leaving the series in 1986.
