The Ormond Building





The Ormond Building was built in 1881 and designed by Mangnall and Littlewood.  It was originally the offices of the Poor Law Guardians and a Registry Office.  Today it belongs to Manchester Metropolitan University and is home to:

MIRIAD, the MMU's Research Institute for advanced cultural inquiry and creativity.  It involves various aspects of Art & Design, including Architectural Design; Drama, Dance and Performing Arts; and Histories and Theories of Art and Design.

and

The RED (Research, Enterprise and Corporate Development) Office,  which "brings together three specialist teams; Research, Enterprise and Corporate Development, to provide expert support and advice to MMU staff and students."







The building features a number of excellent sculptured heads.
