Grand Central - Oxford Road

This terrace of former houses is home to the Grand Central Pub and, in 2014, a fast food take-away called Archies.  The pub says that it, "... has live music on Thursday nights, with the occasional "special" on other days of the week. This is also the North West home of Bloodstock Festival's Metal To The Masses contest. Admission to Grand Central is always free & it's proud to be rock n metal to its' foundations."

The buildings have been there for some time.  Reference to the 1849 map of the area clearly shows 3 streets of houses with what was then the Tulloghgarum Vaults pub at the end of James Leigh Street.  That pub still remains but today it is known as The Salisbury.

The red arrow on the aerial photograph below points to the terrace in 1953.

There has been a pub at the end of the row for a long time but the name Grand Central is relatively recent.  In the 1970s it was called the "Beef & Barley Steak House", as you can see if you click on THIS LINK
