The Medlock Apartments
- Jordan Street
![]() The Medlock Apartments
form an L-shaped block that runs from the banks of
the River Medlock and then along the side of Jordan
Street. The company that owns the
building says this of it, "Medlock Apartments was
founded in 2008 with the idea in mind to provide the
very best of luxury serviced
apartments in Manchester at
affordable costs, without compromising quality and
standards". The company also has properties
in London and Dubai.
![]() ![]() ![]() The 1844 - 1849 map of
the area shows that the site was occupied by an
eclectic collection of buildings. There
were three blocks of apparently back-to-back houses, a
weaving shed and Egerton cotton mill.
![]() By 1888 there was still
a variety of occupants both residential and
commercial / industrial.
The weaving shed and some of the houses had become a
chair factory. Egerton's Mill was now T. Ryder
& Co Ltd, Engineers.
![]() By the time the aerial
photograph below was taken, in 1953, it appears that
most if not all of the houses were gone.
