River
City
![]() The River City
apartment complex is composed of three buildings
occupying a triangular plot of land between City Road
East and the River Medlock. In harmony with the
river theme the buildings are called Rhine, Danube and
Nile.
![]() ![]() Nile has 72 apartments
over eight floors, Rhine has 21 apartments and Danube
45 apartments both over seven floors. The developers
say of the complex, "The stylish development
is bounded by the river and incorporates an urban
courtyard within its architecture."
This riverside setting has a long history of industrial and commercial use. The 1845 map shows that the Medlock Street Iron Works and the Hulme Brewery made it home. ![]() Below is an aerial
photograph of the site in 1953 and it clearly
shows a conglomeration of "industrial" buildings.
