![]() Hotspur House occupies a site on
Cambridge Street between the railway viaduct and the
River Medlock. The OS map of 1844 shows that it
started life as a cotton mill called the Medlock Mills.
![]() By the time the Goad Insurance Map of
1888 was drawn, the building was listed as a Printing
Works owned by the Percy Brothers Ltd.
![]() Evidence of that can still be seen
beside the entrance.
![]() ![]() Over the years the occupants changed. ![]() An article on the
"placenorthwest.co.uk" website dated August 20, 2015
reported that, "... MCR Property Group has
exchanged contracts to purchase Hotspur House, a
19th-Century mill in Cambridge Street, Manchester,
for around £2.5m. The 56,000 sq ft five-storey
warehouse was formerly used as a cotton mill, before
being taken over by printing company Percy Brothers.
The building was used as a printing shop until
2011. The warehouse currently provides studio
space for artists and musicians. .... The area
around Hotspur House could be affected by a
compulsory purchase order as part of Network Rail’s
extensive works at the nearby Oxford Road Railway
Station. MCR said that it was proposing to work with
Network Rail on the future of the site."
The images below were taken in March
of 2017 at which time the building was boarded up and
apparently unoccupied.
