Jury's
Inn - Great Bridgewater Street
The Jury's Inn hotel
on Great Bridgewater Street sits between Evershed
House and The Briton's Protection pub on the west side
of the street across from the Bridgewater Hall.
It occupies a site that, when I was a child, was part of the Lower Mosley Street Bus Station. The main bus station was across the street but the site of the Jury's Inn, indicated by an arrow on the aerial photograph below (dated 1953), was used as a parking space for express buses. The Havelock Mill was
on one side of this parking area. On the other
side was a small building used as a cafe. It can
be seen in the image below looking from the main bus
station across Great Bridgewate Street. The
image is shown with the permission of Christopher
Leach (from his Busworld Photography Blogspot)
In the mid 19th
Century a timber yard occupied the site of the
cafe and the express bus parking site was empty.
