Ibis
Hotel - Portland Street
The Ibis Hotel
occupies the mid-section of the Portland Street block
between Princess Street and Dickinson Street.
This block was once made up warehouses but the
Manchester Blitz of 1940 destroyed all but the one
that still occupies the Princess Street corner.
The aerial photograph below, taken in 1953, shows the
site of today's Ibis Hotel being used as a car park.
In 1888, as you can
see on my version of a map from that date, it was a
shipping warehouse above ground and a packing
warehouse in the basement.
