Cobbett's House - 58 Mosley Street

This was once the site of the Milne Building, regarded by Pevsner as one of the finest warehouses in Manchester. (see below)

The Milne Building was demolished to make way for Cruickshank & Seward's Eagle Star Building in 1973.  It was subsequently demolished to be replaced by 58 Mosley Street commissioned by  Maple Groves Developments and occupied by  the legal firm Cobbett's.  Sainsburys occupy much of the ground floor.

The building was designed by the Deep Blue Architects who say this about the building:  "The facade of the building is key to its success. It has been sensitively designed to bridge the gap between the traditional solid and the newer, taller, glass buildings on the street. Cobbetts House provides a balance to Mosley Street which complements the history of the area while providing a modern and efficient building.  The integrated steel frame and concrete facade of the building allow the internal office spaces to be relatively column free; maximising the flexibility of the space and providing higher net to gross ratios. The louvers and the protruding concrete frame give the building its defining characteristics, while helping to shade the building from the intensity of the sun and reducing demand on the air conditioning system"
