Prudential Assurance Building

It is difficult to imagine that the Prudential Assurance Building was designed by the same architect who was responsible for the Gothic masterpiece of Manchester Townhall.  This rather "modern" looking building constructed of brick and terracotta is in fact by Alfred Waterhouse in 1881. It features round-topped windows and supporting columns. It was much changed when adapted into a Barclay's Bank in 1975 and modified further to accommodate shops at street level including the addition of granite cladding.
