Close to the entrance stands this statue dedicated to the Post Office employees who died in in World War One.  It used to stand inside the post office in Spring Gardens.

The site of the sorting office was previously occupied by the Oldham Road Goods Station and a large complex of produce warehouses.  The images below show the site in 1953.  More details of the goods station can be found in the "Gone Forever" section of this web site.
