The Bank of England Pub, Pollard
Street, Ancoats
 As the map below shows,
there has been a "Bank of England" public house on the
corner of Pollard Street and Carruthers Street since at
least 1851.
 Here it is again in this map, shown with the permission of Chetham's Library, also dated 1851 .  In July of 2010 the pub
is boarded up and in the midst of the construction zone
of the new Metrolink tram line growing out from
Piccadilly Station towards the City of Manchester
Stadium.
  As you will gather from
the images above the "Bank of England" is closed and it
looks particularly beleaguered.
