Weavers Quay, New Islington

When I visited in December of 2017, work was underway on a new development beside Mill Street in New Islington.  This is Weavers Quay described by Manchester Life as a, "... New build site providing 201 one, two and three bedroom apartments for rent in a waterside location, complete with club room, on-site parking, cycle storage and a 24/7 concierge."  They add that, "...  The marina-side location of Weavers Quay, located within the vibrant and emerging Ancoats Ward, provides a desirable central Manchester location with immediate and easy access to the city’s employment, amenities and transport networks, with other forthcoming Manchester Life developments close by housing commercial units that will bringing exciting new food and beverage outlets to the neighborhood."

In the 1840s the site of this new development (marked by the red rectangle) was a brickfield adjacent to a number of canal-side coal wharfs.

By the time the aerial photograph below was taken, in 1953, the area was heavily built up, although very industrial in nature.  The red arrow points at the Ancoats Dispensary, which is just about still there.
