As part of the development of the New Islington area, a new canal marina has been created across from Redhill Street in Ancoats.  The area, which is still very much under development.  By 2017 it contained new residential buildings, a new school, and a new eco park called Cotton Field with a canal boat marina.  To provide access to this newly developed area this footbridge was added linking Redhill Street to Cotton Field.  Its rather unusual configuration spans the junction of the canal and the marina entrance providing 5 points of access.  The designers say that, "The design aims to create an intriguing addition to complement the historic canal side warehouses of Ancoats and the contemporary architecture of the new development ... The truss is the bridge’s main structural support and is clad using a bespoke perforated metal design."

If you look at the water below the bridge, you will see that within the shadow that the bridge casts are the words "CAST NO SHADOW", perhaps an homage to the Oasis album of that name.  You can see it in the image below.
