The Beehive Mill, Jersey Street



The Beehive Mill was built in the 1820s as a 5-storey L-shaped structure with 13 bays on Radium Street and 3 on Jersey Street.  An attached warehouse extension on Jersey Street was built in 1824.  The building features a fireproof construction involving interlocking cast iron beams and columns.



The mill was converted into offices and studios in 1996 by Provan & Makin. 





The tower has the name Sankey Soap painted on it reflecting the fact that at one point Sankeys occupied the building.  Today a dance club occupies the mill called "Sankeys Soap", as you can see below.



The 1851 map below shows the Beehive Mill in the ownership of Sykes and Millar.
