Nuovo, Great Ancoats Street

The Nuovo Apartments occupy a site bordered by Blossom Street, Henry Street, Jersey Street and Great Ancoats Street.  The project's builder Sir Robert McAlpine says on its website that it will, "... provide 166 high specification apartments, 40 of which will be affordable homes, along with ground-floor commercial space."  Adding that it comprises, "... a 13-storey tower and two lower blocks, the part-built scheme on Great Ancoats Street had been on hold for several years prior to our involvement."

This project has indeed taken several years to complete and along the way it has also changed its name from Sarah Village to Sarah Point and now Nuovo.

Work ground to a halt at the steel framing stage in 2008 and the building stood as a rusting skeleton for a number of years.

The site is a mixture of new builds and refurbishment of older buildings.  Below is the Gun Street Warehouse, No.5, built around 1830.  This building is the former home of the printers Kirkham and Platt and more recently a manufacturer of street organs.
