Oxid House,
Newton Street & Great Ancoats Street
![]() Oxid House on the corner of Newton
Street and Great Ancoats Street in Manchester's
Northern Quarter is described by O'Connor Bowden as,
"... A brand new 12 storey development with 119
one and two bedroom apartments, a rooftop garden
and resident’s gymnasium.
![]() ![]() ![]() ******************* The 1849 map of the area shows
the site occupied by two blocks (within the red
box) that included both residences and probably
shops along Great Ancoats Street. On the
Newton Street end of the block was the Lord Nelson
pub which survived well into the 21st Century.

closed in 2010 and at some point since then
the building was demolished. I took
the image below in October of 2014 and, as
you can see, the site was then a parking
lot.
