Manchester House - Princess Street Manchester
House is located at 86 Princess Street. This red
sandstone and pink brick building has been ascribed to
the architect I. R. E. Birkett and was built between
1906 and 1909. The building fronts onto Princess
Street and the River Medlock runs behind it. Once
a packing and shipping warehouse, Manchester House today
is home to a diverse collection of businesses including:
textile merchants and agents, solicitors, medical &
dental labs, accountants and two restaurants.
During the 19th Century
the River Medlock was flanked by mills of various kinds
and this site, where Manchester House sits today, was
once home to J. & J. M. Worrall's Ltd. Bleachers and
Finishers. Their mill ran from Charles Street to
the corner where Manchester House sits today.
