Princess
House & Montana House - Princess Street![]() Princess House and
Montana House are two large apartment towers that sit
side-by-side on Princess Street close to the point where
the River Medlock passes under the street.
In the 1920s a large warehouse/factory building occupied this site beside the Medlock. The Kelly's Directory of Manchester & Salford for 1927 indicates that the occupant of 144 Princess Street was W. Langford & Co Ltd, manufacturers of frocks, Princess skirts and dress skirts. When the map of the area was drawn for 1928 (my version below) the building was home to a shirt factory and a making-up and packing warehouse. Montana House stands where there was once a fur glove factory and engineers had premises. ![]() The aerial photograph below was taken in 1953 and it shows the location shaded in red. ![]() Click on the link below
to see the site as it was in 1959. 144 Princess
Street is the tall building just beyond the street
light.
