Free Library

The Instituto Cervantes occupies a building on Deansgate between Liverpool Road and Tonman Street.  The building sits in front of the Higher Campsfield Market and linked to it by a glazed arcade.  The building was designed by George Meek and opened in 1882 as a Free Library.  On one end of the building is the Instituto Cervantes which offers Spanish courses and cultural activities.  At the other end is Dimitiri's Mediterranean Restaurant.

Marking its role as a public library is the Manchester City Crest carved in the stone pediment.
