Valette
The Salford Artist L. S.
Lowry has received Internation acclaim and his painting
featuring "matchstick" people have become synonymous
with Salford, Manchester and the industrial north.
In 1905 Laurence Stephen Lowry managed to secure a place
at the Manchester Municipal College of Art, where he
studied under the French Impressionist artist Adolphe
Vallette.
The Manchester Municipal College of Art is today part of the Manchester Municipal University and on the outside of their building on Cavendish Street is a blue plaque commemorating Valette. |
