The Paddock was clearly closed when I took this image in March of 2014 and gave every indication that it had been closed for some time.  There did seem to be some sort of construction going on.  Apparently the pub was once called The Fusilier.  It is possible that the adoption of the name "The Paddock" was in homage to the fact that there was once a racecourse not far away.  The pub sign isn't easy to distinguish but does show a jockey on horseback.
