Smithfield Hotel and Bar The Smithfield Hotel and Bar stands on the corner of Swan Street and Coop Street close by the former Smithfield Market Offices. Once it must have bustled with market workers but the market is gone and the clientele must be quite different.  The pub has stood on this corner for
more than 169 years. It can be seen, indicated by
a red arrow, on the 1844 map of the area. In those
days it was called "The Smithfield Market Tavern".
