Church Inn

The Church Inn on Ford Street in Salford was in a sad state of affairs when I took this photograph in March of 2013.  It has clearly been closed for some time.  It has probably fallen foul of the decline in the pub business with public houses closing at an alarming rate around the country.  It would also appear that it is part of the compulsory purchase order that has been imposed on a number of buildings on or in the vicinity of Chapel Street to clear the way for the areas redevelopment.

The Slater's Directory of Manchester & Salford for 1879 lists a public house called the "Church" at 1 Ford Street in Salford with Elizabeth Stainier as the landlady.  It appears again in the 1895 and the 1903 Directories this time with Eugene Gribbin as the landlord.  So it would seem that there has been a pub called "Church" in this location, if perhaps not in this building, for about 130 years and perhaps longer.
