In July of 2008, when the image above was captured, the Stubbs Mill was in a lamentable state of disrepair and decline.  Nearby is the Ashton Canal as it passes through Ancoats.  This Islington Wharf section of the canal is now home to the spectacular Isis residential development and will soon see the nearby "Chips" building completed.  The plan is to refurbish the Stubbs Mill and create "unique residential “shell” spaces so that people can design their own loft apartment." and make "space for a mix of offices and retail uses plus a new bar/restaurant space.
