The Mitchell Arms pub sits on an island of land bound by Merrill Street, Holt Town, Beswick Street and Frost Street, in Ancoats.  Nearby is a road bridge over the River Medlock.  The pub has been there for at least 166 years as you can see from the map below which dates from 1845.  You will note that it was referred to then as the Mitchell's Arms.

In February 2011 the pub looks somewhat beleaguered surrounded by safety barriers.  It sits in the midst of the construction zone for the new Metrolink line from Piccadilly to Ashton.
