This building on the corner of
Chester Road and Empress Street is the Empress
Business Centre. The centre's website says
that it has transformed this Victorian building
into, " ... a modern business environment,
providing offices, a coworking space, meeting
rooms, workshops, storage units and a mailbox
service." They add that, "
... The building still retains some of its
Victorian character, with vaulted ceilings in
some offices and an original wrought-iron
staircase."
A stone plaque high up on the
building announces its name.
However, it didn't always say
that. An old photograph of the building shows
a different name and explains its history.
This was indeed the "Empress
Brewery", apparently opened in 1880 by Charles
Dawes. In 1884 control switched to William
Henry Fulford who had recently sold the Monarch
Brewery in Salford.
Once the Empress Brewery, the Empress Business Centre in Manchester has been transformed into a modern business environment, providing offices, a coworking space, meeting rooms, workshops, storage units and a mailbox service. Our CCTV system monitors the car parks and entrances and exits to the building, giving you total peace of mind.
