Manchester Regional Arena

Located next to the City of Manchester Stadium and just off Alan Turing Way, this was originally the warm-up track for athletes competing in the 2002 Commonwealth Games.  The track was unveiled by Diane Modahl on 18th October 2001 and is now used by local clubs for training and competition and forms part of the North West section of the English Institute of Sport (EIS). As you can see below it also hosts national and international athletics meets.  It has an outdoor Polytan track as well as an indoor straight next to the arena.  There is seating for about 6000 with a vaulted roof over almost half of the stadium.

While the athletes competed on the track Yelena Isinbayeva was beating everyone, as usual, in the pole vault.

Kelly Homes is seen above with a comfortable lead in a race in July of 2004 before her double gold medal performance in Athens and before she became Dame Kelly Holmes.
