The Lowry
Hotel
Named after one of Salford's famous
sons, L. S. Lowry, the artist who came to fame as the
creator of "matchstick men" paintings of the
industrial north, the Lowry Hotel sits at the Salford
end of the Trinity Bridge, beside the Irwell.
Designed by Consarc Architects, this 5* hotel cost
£30m to build and opened for business in 2001.
The Lowry says of itself that it is, "... Located on the original site of the printing company where cult British cartoons, ‘The Dandy’ and ‘The Beano’, were created .... The hotel offers 165 bedrooms including six suites and the Charles Forte Presidential Suite. The hotel is contemporary whilst being luxurious and comfortable with the largest rooms in the city .... The Lowry Hotel was the first five star hotel in Manchester and one of only 20 hotels in the UK to be part of Leading Hotels of The World, the largest collection of luxury hotels in the world with over 430 of the world's greatest hotels in 80 countries." |
