Deva
Centre - Former Cook Street Brewery![]() Located just off Chapel
Street in Salford stands the former Threfall's Chesters
Cook Street Brewery. As the name on the building
indicates it was originally a Threlfall's Brewery built
in 1860. Threlfalls and Chesters merged in 1961
and that company was taken over by Whitbreads in
1967. Brewing ceased at this location in 1988 and
the building sat emprty for a decade falling into a
state of disrepair along the way. In 2000 work
began to transform it into a modern business facility
and it reopened as the Deva Centre in 2001 and today it
is home to a diverse variety of companies.
![]() Designed by W A Deighton, the building is constructed of pressed red brick with ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roofs. It comprises a T-shaped plan with tower, copper-room, offices, a maturing house and a boiler house.
