Manchester Gas Works - Albert Street

As the map segment below shows, the Manchester Gas Works, Reserve Station No 1, used to occupy a site between Albert Street and Lower King Street.  The gas works is long gone as is Albert Street which today is called St. Mary's Parsonage.

Here it is again on a map dated 1885.

By the time the map below was drawn, circa 1888, the gas works was gone and the site had been converted into a police station.

The parade of Peelers, shown above, is forming up in the parade ground in the Albert Street Police Station.  The image dates from the 1850s.

A plaque commemorates the old gas works.
