22 - 24 Mount Road, Alkrington, Middleton

Edgar Wood designed a number of semi-detached houses and clearly struggled to add elements to their designs that avoided the duality that usually results from the melding of two houses. In this pair of houses though he seems to have leaned in the opposite direction and gone for symetry. Two entrance porches sit like bookends in the L-shaped corners created at the front of the house. Twin brick bays rising above a flat section of the roof are decorated with strips of stone and stone cap-stones that dip at the front. The roof on the left looks to have its original stone slates. The roof on the right looks to be newer. A shared chimney stack marks the centre of the structure. These Mount Street homes were built in 1907.
