Urania is a public
observatory that rises prominently in the
centre of Zurich. The observatory sits
atop a 51 metre tower. The building
below contains a plaque indicating it was
designed by Gustav Gull and built between
1905 and 1907. The observatory
contains an optical telescope designed by
Carl Zeiss AG in Jena, Germany.
Apparently, the telescope was
dismantled in March 2006, and returned to
Jena to be restored. On April 25, 2007, the
telescope was hoisted back into place in the
dome and on May 4, 2007, its second opening
ceremony was celebrated.
