Information
Engineering Building, Banbury Road, Oxford University
The Society of Oxford University Engineers website
says that this building, "...
is situated on the Banbury Road within the Keble
triangle. The site was originally occupied by two
Victorian terrace buildings that were demolished
to construct the IEB. The building is located
between the existing Jenkin Building and
Engineering and Technology Building (ETB).
Physical links were made between the new and both
existing buildings. There was a great deal of
co-ordination with the users of both surrounding
buildings particularly as the ETB is co-occupied
by two Departments. The purpose of the
building is to accommodate a variety of research
groups using computer based studies together with
robotics. The building comprises four floors of
computing research space above ground with two
ground floor lecture theatres, a lower ground
floor containing a variety of experimental
laboratory space (including laser laboratories)
and an atrium between the new and existing wings
of the Engineering Technology Building. Walter
Lily were the main contractor and completion was
achieved in September 2004."
