London Bridge Place, London

Architect
Renzo Piano Building Workshop
Date Built
2013
Location
London Bridge Quarter
Description
The Place sits beside the Shard adjacent to London Bridge Station.  Like the Shard, it was designed by the Italian architect, Renzo Piano.  Piano says of the building that, "The design of the building is determined by the site: the building is 'sculpted' naturally by the curve of the railway lines, rising higher to the east towards London Bridge Tower (the Shard), and lower to the west towards Southwalk's Cathedral. ... Energy use will be compensated by positioning a large sun collector composed of solar panels atop of the building.  Winter gardens at each level will help create a permeable skin, thus allowing natural ventilation."

The owners of The Place describe it as, " ... a ground breaking new business destination that makes a strong and compelling corporate statement in London's newest commercial quarter."
