Description |
|
This new
building on Marylebone Road is home to 10
courtrooms for the Westminster
Magistrates. In addition to dealing
with the full range of criminal business, it
will address extradition cases and other
areas of international work. In addition to
the courtrooms the new complex includes: a
dedicated secure custody suite, secure
holding areas adjacent to the courtrooms, a
layout designed for step-free circulation,
and a dedicated press room. The Hurd Rolland website says that, "The new Magistrates’ courts for central London, replaces the famous courts at Bow Street and Horseferry Road, redeveloping the existing Marylebone Road Courts site which is London’s oldest functioning Law court." They add that, "A four storey high screen is formed by a lattice work of solid stone sections, and wraps around the front of the building; defining the existing street line culminating in a new public forecourt to the main entrance. A full-length atrium brings natural daylight into the centre of the building including the courtrooms and provides orientation for the linear court layout." |
