These public
conveniences on London's South Bank, close
to Jubilee Gardens, were designed by Mark
Power for Healthmatic Ltd. It was
because of their location that they were
given the affectionate nickname of "Jubiloo".
The architect's website says that, "...
The pavilion, with its dramatic canopy
is like a vessel moored along the
historic riverbank beside Jubilee
Gardens."
With this in mind, the bench incorporated into the building bears a quotation from Anthony and Cleopatra that is thought to have been based on Shakespeare's recollection of Elizabeth I traveling along the Thames. |
