Description

The Ivy restaurant sits on "The
Lawn" in Hardman Square, Spinningfield,
Manchester. The architects, Sheppard Robson,
describe the building as a, "....four-storey
retail pavilion has been designed to be a
permanent venue for a high-end food and drink
offering," The four-storey, timber
framed building that was , "... greened and
softened with landscaped ledges and trellaces,
tiered seating and street furniture, adding
some ever-needed public green space to the
urban layout of Manchester city centre."
According to the "Gray & Dick Ltd" website the
building's rooftop restaurant features a fully
retractable glass roof. This article
appeared on their website on the 2nd of August
2018. "Having recently completed the
main construction of the new Ivy Restaurant in
Manchester, which included all the glazing and
feature steelwork, we were then commissioned
to alter and enclose the roof terrace.
One of the main design principles for the new
extension was a fully retractable glass roof.
After great consideration and design work, we
formed a partnership with Libart of Turkey as
this is their area of expertise. A
meeting in Germany at a trade show and many
phone calls and emails later, we resolved all
issues and had a product that would satisfy
our needs. With a touch of a button on a
remote control, the roof area will retract and
provide open air dining and fabulous
views. We are in the process of
installing at the moment and should deliver a
fantastic product in the next few weeks."
