Hotel Indigo, Manchester, UK

Architect
3DReid
Date Built
2018
Location
6 Todd St,  M3 1WU
Description

3DReid describe the Hotel Indigo Manchester as, "... a fusion of two very different types of building – the historic existing Grade II listed building connected at each level to the new build 14 storey extension that incorporates a new restaurant ..... The design sought to connect these two buildings by neither being traditional nor contemporary and there is a seamless flow between them. ..........

..... Drawing inspiration from Manchester’s Victorian and Industrial past the Hotel Indigo Manchester is indigenous to the local area so guests are well aware that they are staying at the gateway to the Northern Quarter. ..... The entrance reception is a stunning open atrium space filled with natural light. Bespoke lighting highlights the restored Victorian brickwork and architectural details within the atrium to create an impact for guests upon arrival."

City Buildings occupied part of this roughly triangular site adjacent to Urbis and Victoria Station.  As you can see from the image below, taken in March of 2014, the building was swathed in scaffolding at the beginning of the construction phase for the hotel.

City Buildings had been unoccupied for a number of years.  The image below shows what it looked like before the construction began.
