This tower block (left
above) is one element of a new housing
development in Stratford that comprises four
other blocks in addition to this 132 metre
tower. Known as the Stratford Halo,
this residential complex sits at the corner
of Stratford High Street and Warton Road
with the Waterworks River flowing by on the
other side. The "Ardmore Group"
website says that, "The
redevelopment will provide a mix of
flexible commercial space, community
facilities plus associated car and cycle
parking, landscaped public, communal and
private amenity space and a new
landscaped riverside walkway." The development was commissioned by the Genesis Housing Association who describe it as, " ... our flagship scheme in the heart of the Olympic Village. Offering unparalleled views of the Olympic Stadium and the Orbit Tower, it will be at the heart of the excitement and atmosphere of the Olympics. It will also contribute to the large scale regeneration of Newham, East London and the Thames Gateway. All homes are designed to be energy efficient and comfortable, featuring modern amenities in well designed accessible blocks that are close to shops." The site will provide a total of 704 homes of which 138 will be offered at social rent, 410 at market sale/rent rates, 91 will be shared ownership and 65 extra care. |
