Description |

The architects
describe their bridge in Paddington
Basin as, "... both
simple and
spectacular." The 3m
wide cantilevered deck is hinged at its
north end. The deck is made of
five steel beams which are raised
separately by hydraulic jacks and
counterweights. As the bridge
opens the sections rise separately in a
fan-like configuration. As the
architects say, "... In
motion it will be an eye-catching
kinetic sculpture whose silhouette
is both legible and exciting and
which is well suited to the position
on Sunset Terrace."
The handrail houses low energy LED downlights for both aesthetic and safety purposes. |
