3 Merchant Square is part of an extensive development of offices, retail units and residential blocks grouped around the Paddington Basin of the Grand Union Canal.  Its website claims that it offers, "... A commanding presence on the Grand Union Canal anchoring this important corner on the new Garden Square.”  Adding that the building is , "... An elegant and confident 21 storey canal-side residential building, providing 201 apartments of varying sizes and tenure .... The richly articulated façade combines impressive double height bays of stone with finely detailed layers of bronze cladding and glazing to provide visual interest and a human scale. Interiors have been designed to meet the client’s aspirations to combine thoughtful design with immaculate detailing of quality materials."

The architects say that, "... The use of recessed external balconies, ‘Juliette’ balconies and winter gardens further enhance this residential character, reinforcing the integrity of the building as a whole."
