Description

The architects say that the Winter Garden
project,
"was conceived as a covered galleria
an integral part of the network of pedestrian
streets which together with the Millennium
Galleries forms a pedestrian hub linking the
Civic, Arts and University quarters of
Sheffield – a cultural route through to the
city centre."
It provides a large temperate glasshouse
containing more than 2000 plants from around the
world. It also offers cafe areas and
access to the Millenium Art Gallery and an
attached Mercure Hotel.
A series of wooden arches support the
roof. These are made of glued laminated
Larch which will gradually take on a greyish
hue.
