The Shudehill Interchange is
located within the Shudehill
conservation area. Ian Simpson
Architects, the designers of the new
Shudehill Interchange, describe it as
follows: "The design proposal
comprises three primary components;
the bus concourse and passenger
stops, a new Metrolink Tram stop and
a multi-storey car park. The
intention has been to integrate the
three elements to form a single
cohesive entity to be known as the
Manchester Transport Interchange." The most prominent feature of the site is the multi-story car park. Ian Simpson says of it: "The envelope to the car park consists of an arrangement of sandblasted glass panels, heavily articulated within the horizontal plane and varying in width. The intention is to achieve the required natural ventilation whilst presenting an animated and varied facade." The Interchange is served by the free city centre Metroshuttle bus service and frequent trams running to Bury, Altrincham, Eccles and Piccadilly. Bus services serving the North and West of Greater Manchester also use the Interchange. |
