Description
The new buildings that house the technical offices of Bilbao's city corporation are located directly behind the beautiful neo-baroque original town hall designed by Joaquin Rucoba in 1892.

Under the headline "BILBAO CITY COUNCILS NEW BUILDING: SAN AGUSTIN" the bilbaointernational website says that one consideration in the design of this building was, ".... respect for the representative image of the main building of the Bilbao City Hall and projecting the volumetry and alignments of the new municipal headquarters attending to the conditions of the urban environment in which it is implanted.  Another aspect taken into account by the authors of the project, IMB Architects, is the lack of public space that existed in direct relation to the current City Hall building.  In this sense, the final design of the new municipal headquarters has contemplated the creation of an outdoor public space as an approach to the ground floor of the new building.  This new urban space is formed by the surface of the back alley of the City Hall."
