Description |
|
This millennium project was the
first new Thames crossing in more than 100
years. It provides a pedestrian
bridge with spectacular views at either
end. In order to preserve the view,
the bridge's suspension cables run below
the level of the aluminium deck. The bridge has two piers and is made up of three sections respectively 81 metres, 144 metres and 108 metres long. The bridge was opened on the 10th of June but closed two days later because of excessive swaying which resulted in it being called "The Wobbly Bridge". Adjustments were made
and since the bridge reopened there has
been no reoccurance of the problem.
