The
Malmaison company has a reputation for converting
historic buildings into luxury hotels.
However, in Liverpool they chose to commission
this purpose-built mixed-use building overlooking
the Prince Dock. The architect for the
project was Leach Rhodes Walker and they say that
the finished building, " ... consists of a
130 guestroom 4 star hotel with high quality
restaurant, bar, conferencing and spa/gym
with 49 luxury one and two bed apartments
located above the hotel."
The construction of the hotel
was the responsibility of Morgan Sindall.
Their view is that, “The successful
delivery of this 12-storey, high
specification hotel is testament to the
expertise and ability of the Morgan Sindall
management team. By using modern methods of
construction, Morgan Sindall reduced
construction time while delivering the
client brief. Due to the fact that the
site is partially on reclaimed dockland,
Morgan Sindall built the new hotel on piled
foundations to future-proof the building.
The first three floors are in-situ concrete
frame to allow for greater flexibility of
open floor spaces. Floors four to 10
comprise precast concrete walls and floors,
which can be put up quickly to reduce
construction time, and floors 11 to 12 are
steel framed. The building is clad with
a Carea rainscreen cladding system
to create a simple yet stunning facade."
